GENERAL FUNCTION

The Indirect Tax Team is responsible for the design, implementation, and defense of Indirect Tax strategies and positions. The Property Tax Manager will play an integral role in supporting the North American Indirect Tax function. This position will take a hands-on approach in actively managing all aspects of personal property taxes, real estate taxes, and unclaimed property. The position will also be responsible for related accounting functions as well as resolving audits and inquires by taxing jurisdictions. The Property Tax Manager must be an excellent collaborator with finance and real estate business partners as well as third-party service providers. This role will have responsibility for 1-2 direct or indirect reports (tax professionals).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages compliance with applicable unclaimed property, real and personal property tax laws.

Monitors changes in tax laws that impact our business in the US and Canada and timely communicates related effects to business partners.

Oversees the timely completion and payment of all required property tax and unclaimed property filings.

Manages outside service provider with respect to personal property tax compliance activities.

Verifies and authorizes tax payments ensuring they are accurate and timely.

Reviews and reconciles monthly posting of tax payments and journal entries for accuracy.

Develops annual budget analysis and maintains monthly accruals and forecasts cash flow.

Manages property tax audits and leads negotiations with auditors to timely resolve issues.

Proactively identifies and communicates pending property tax increases to finance partners.

Ensures compliance with internal controls for property tax and unclaimed property activities.

Develops and defends positions in negotiations and before taxing authorities.

Collaborates with third parties to maximize potential tax reductions through appeals and protests.

Responds to inquiries raised by internal customers and taxing jurisdictions.

Drives process improvements to further automate processes to improve accuracy and create efficiencies.

Assists with sales/use tax projects and/or compliance activities on an as needed basis.

Assists with special projects as assigned.

Mentors and trains direct and indirect reports.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Minimum of five years experience in public accounting and/or private industry working primarily in indirect tax

At least one year of supervisory and/or management experience

Experience in audit defense and appeals

Software Skills Preferred: SAP, MS Suite, Alteryx, IDEA

Excellent time management and organization skills

Excellent communication skills – verbal and written

Ability to work with cross functional teams and proactively seek solutions and suggests improvements

Ability to use technology in order to gain efficiencies

Self-motivated, business savvy, integrity and team player

Research and analytical skills a must

Preferred Qualifications

CMI/CPA designation preferred
