Summary: Legal Assistant / Paralegal hybrid position supporting the Litigation group in Los Angeles (litigation in insurance, banking, real estate, complex business litigation and arbitrations).
Reports To: Judy Lam
Essential Job Functions:
Draft and assist with preparation of pleadings, correspondence, documents, PPT, presentations (editing, drafting, printing)
Court filings – state and federal court throughout CA
Oversee service of process, investigators, asset searches
Prepare document productions, discovery requests and responses, trial preparation from commencement of the case to trial
Maintain Filling and organization of client files, case documents in document management
Multitask and prepare work product efficiently and quickly on multiple cases.
Preparing court statements and forms
Managing diaries and making travel arrangements and preparations for conferences for one or more Lawyers
Supporting legal research and communicating with vendors, experts, Lawyers, opposing counsel and other staff
Familiarity with legal terminology and documentation
Proficiency in word processing software including MS Office
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Team player with initiative, working with team of lawyers and others, cooperates in a small office environment
Able to prioritize tasks and work within deadlines with attention to detail
Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research, and initial case assessments
First draft and shells of pleadings, discovery, motions, orders, and appellate documents and follow court rules and local rules
Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc.)
Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes, litigation binders
Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests
Gather relevant information from a variety of sources
Liaise between trial teams and internal/external third parties
Time Entry & Billing, Expense reports
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work successfully with multiple team members, interacting with employees at all levels of the organization.
Competent to handle a variety of activities with attention to detail and quality, with the ability to follow through and follow up, and adapt to quickly meet changing deadlines and priorities.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to complete multiple tasks and a high volume of work on short deadlines and follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision.
Retain a high level of flexibility and resourceful problem solving when asked to handle multiple cases and priorities.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent working under pressure and always attentive to client service.
Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentially
Educational and Experience Requirements:
High School diploma
Associate degree preferred
Prior legal experience required
Trail experience preferred
Paralegal associates degree or other relevant certification preferred
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Ability to work extended hours when necessary.
Normal office environment; no unusual physical demands.
