Community Construction is the wholly owned subsidiary construction company that performs and oversees all construction and renovation work for Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC, Inc) CHWC is a comprehensive community development organization whose mission is to stabilize, revitalize, and reinvest in Kansas City, Kansas through improved housing and related quality of life initiatives. We build beautiful, efficient, durable, healthy homes; promote sustainable homeownership through one-on-one coaching, classes, and financial assistance; and engage and strengthen neighborhoods through arts, green initiatives, and youth enterprise development.
The Construction Superintendent manages and schedules the completion of single-family homes and other structures on budget and on-time while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The Superintendent should have a strong knowledge of building science as well as local residential construction codes; be competent in organization, planning, scheduling, trade management, and computer technology; have an eye for detail, be goal driven, be able to work with internal staff, external trade contractors and exhibit initiative in achieving the organization’s goals.
This position will require the use of a personal vehicle and smartphone on a daily basis. Requires access to a personal truck to occasionally pick up, move or deliver material to and from the job site.
Primary duties include but are not limited to:

The Superintendent manages the construction of single-family homes from start to completion.
This role requires the willingness to get your hands and boots dirty and shall not be limited to, moving of form lumber, pumping of water and the watering of sod.
Over see’s the day-to-day subcontractor labor on assigned job sites.
Under general direction of Director of Construction Services, recruit additional trades to build a larger base of contractors.
Maintains all job schedules to their “current” status and expected completion using proper activity sequencing. Coordinates with subcontractors and material suppliers to maintain closing schedules. Notifies the Director of Construction Services and trade partners of changes to the schedule and delays on the job.
Attend all pre-construction orientation meetings with the home buyers, incorporating the review of the home plans, specifications, major schedule & construction process milestones for each project.
Works with internal staff to insure homes are built in accordance with homebuyer’s specifications and design selections.
Responsible for completion of all punch list items generated prior to the homeowner pre-closing walk through as well as the timely completion of all pre-closing walk-through items.
Communicates in a professional manner with home designers, purchasing, real estate agents, office staff, building inspectors, trade contractors, and homeowners on a regular basis.
Will conduct warranty inspections and review in coordination with the Director of Construction Services and will be responsible for managing each warranty item through completion.
Perform daily Quality Control inspections on all projects under construction and perform weekly inspections of any homes in inventory to ensure cleanliness and that scheduled maintenance is performed.
Identifies opportunities for cost saving measures as a result of changing construction processes, materials or installation techniques.
Maintains a clean community and leaves adjacent lots in good condition when construction is completed.
Complete other tasks as assigned and as the company evolves.


A four-year degree in construction management or a related field, along with at least three years of residential new construction site management.
Computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft and Google Office programs
Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with a sense of urgency
Team player with a positive attitude and initiative
Offer conditional on motor vehicle record check.
This role requires: travel to our properties around Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte Co. and may be physically demanding. The ability to work in confined spaces, indoors and outdoors, in all climates, and unclean environments with fumes, dust and poor ventilation while adhering to company safety requirements and programs. The ability to perform all duties in a safe manner at all times
